Princeton, IL – Severe storms driven by a Mesoscale Convective Vortex (MCV) wreaked havoc across the Illinois Quad Cities area Sunday, causing significant damage and disruption.
According to the US National Weather Service Quad Cities, the storms brought powerful winds of 60-70 mph, leaving widespread damage in their wake. Notable reports included wind speeds of 63 mph in Moline and 62 mph in Davenport, with Princeton experiencing extensive wind damage. Additionally, the area west of Princeton saw hail as large as golf balls, causing further destruction to properties and vehicles.
The storms, which developed from an MCV traversing the region, impacted areas along and east of the Mississippi River. Residents and local authorities are now assessing the extent of the damage and beginning recovery efforts. Trees were uprooted, power lines downed, and some buildings suffered structural damage.
Emergency services were on high alert, responding to numerous calls for assistance. Power outages affected many households, and crews are working to restore electricity. Local officials are advising residents to stay cautious and report any hazards.
