Indiana: Substitute Teacher Arrested for Carrying Firearm at Elementary School

Elkhart, IN – Marissa Meyer, a substitute teacher at Mary Beck Elementary School in Elkhart, was arrested on felony charges after allegedly bringing a handgun onto school property. The incident occurred on Monday morning, and Meyer was subsequently booked into Elkhart County Jail. 

According to Elkhart Police Department officials, the arrest was facilitated by a school resource officer following a tip-off to the district’s security director. According to police reports, Meyer, 40, faces preliminary charges of Possession of a Firearm on School Property, classified as a Level 6 Felony. A judicial officer has set her bond at $5,000, surety only, with no 10% cash option allowed. 

The case has been referred to the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for potential formal charges. Under Indiana law, all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
