Urbana, IL – Early this morning, the Urbana Police Department responded to a distress call from a resident on Sunny Lane, culminating in a tense standoff. 

According to police reports it began around 4 a.m., officers were dispatched following reports of a possible hostage situation at a home within the 700 block. The initial response helped secure the safety of a woman who had reported the incident, isolating the scene swiftly.

As of now, METRO SWAT is executing tactical operations to locate a reportedly armed individual. This ongoing situation has prompted significant restrictions on local traffic, affecting the 500, 600, and 700 blocks of Sunny Lane. Authorities urge residents needing to leave the area to contact METCAD 9-1-1 for escorted passage.
