Chicago, IL – Chicago-area residents will get one more relatively mild day Saturday before temperatures and humidity surge, potentially sending highs into the mid-90s during the coming week.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, Saturday will feature increasing cloud cover with a few afternoon sprinkles possible. Forecasters stressed that the day will not be a washout, with highs generally ranging from 78 to 82 degrees.
Conditions turn warmer and more humid Sunday, when highs are expected to reach 85 to 88 degrees. A hotter pattern then settles across northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana.
Monday could bring highs from 88 to 92, followed by 89 to 94 Tuesday. By Wednesday, temperatures are forecast to range from 88 to 95 degrees.
Overnight temperatures will also remain relatively warm, with lows generally staying in the upper 60s to mid-70s through the period.
While much of the region will experience extended dry periods, residents closer to the Wisconsin state line could encounter occasional showers or thunderstorms. The Weather Service lists a 20% to 30% chance for a shower or storm near the state line each night beginning Sunday night.
The warming trend could mean a major temperature difference between Saturday and the middle of the week, with some locations potentially running more than 10 degrees hotter by Wednesday.
Anyone with outdoor plans should prepare for increasingly hot and humid conditions as the new week begins and monitor updated forecasts for localized thunderstorm chances.
