Monroe County, MI – One driver was killed and another was seriously injured Monday morning in a head-on collision on N. Telegraph Road in Frenchtown Township, authorities said.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported at 10:04 a.m. Monday on N. Telegraph Road, northeast of Hurd Road.
Investigators said Aaron L. Heiss, 48, of Flat Rock, was driving a gray 2010 Ford Escape southwest on N. Telegraph Road when, for reasons that remain under investigation, his vehicle crossed the centerline while negotiating a curve.
The Escape collided head-on with a red 2026 Cadillac OPTIQ driven by John C. Taylor, 83, of Monroe, who was traveling northeast, according to the sheriff’s office.
Heiss was pronounced dead at the scene.
Taylor was transported to Corewell Health Trenton Hospital in Trenton, where authorities said he was listed in serious condition.
Investigators said both drivers were wearing seat belts and airbags deployed in both vehicles.
The sheriff’s office said intoxication is not considered a factor in the collision.
Frenchtown Township firefighters, Monroe Community Ambulance, the Michigan Department of Transportation and the sheriff’s office Victim Services Unit and Chaplain Program assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Services Division.
