Marquette, Michigan – Drivers across Upper Michigan could face slick roads by early Wednesday as freezing rain mixes with snow overnight, creating icy conditions after a quiet Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, lingering snow showers will taper off Tuesday morning, followed by a brief break before a new system arrives overnight. Precipitation is expected to begin as rain but may transition to light freezing rain and snow as temperatures dip into the upper 20s.
The risk for icy roads will be highest late Tuesday night into the early Wednesday morning hours, especially on untreated surfaces and secondary roads across Marquette County and surrounding areas. Elevated surfaces such as bridges and overpasses could freeze first, increasing the خطر of travel issues during the morning commute.
By Wednesday afternoon, temperatures are expected to rise enough for precipitation to change over to all rain, reducing the icing threat but keeping roads wet. Cities including Marquette, Escanaba, and Munising may see varying conditions depending on temperature changes.
Warmer and quieter weather is expected to build late in the week, with partly cloudy skies and highs climbing into the 40s by Friday. However, another round of rain and possible thunderstorms could return by the weekend.
Drivers are urged to use caution overnight into Wednesday morning and check for updated advisories as conditions evolve.
