Hancock, ME – A 29-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision with an SUV on U.S. Route 1 in Hancock Friday night, and Maine State Police are now asking potential witnesses to come forward.
According to Maine State Police, troopers responded at approximately 9:39 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, to a reported crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV on U.S. Route 1 in Hancock.
Police identified the motorcycle operator as Richard Ryan, 29, of Hancock. Ryan was pronounced dead at the scene.
The person operating the SUV was not injured in the collision, according to state police. Authorities did not release that driver’s identity in the initial announcement.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remained under investigation Saturday. Police did not provide additional information about where along U.S. Route 1 the collision occurred, the direction either vehicle was traveling or what investigators believe may have caused the crash.
U.S. Route 1 is a major coastal highway running through Hancock County and communities across eastern Maine, including areas near Ellsworth and the Mount Desert Island region.
Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has information that could assist investigators to contact Trooper Bagley through the Maine State Police Bangor Regional Communications Center at 207-973-3700.
No additional details were immediately available Saturday afternoon.
The investigation remains active as state police work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
