Newton, IL – Six people were arrested in separate incidents across Jasper County in the second half of July, including three suspects accused of possessing methamphetamine with intent to deliver, according to a new Sheriff’s Department report.
According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, deputies stopped a vehicle around 1:16 a.m. July 29 near North 1000th Street and East 1050th Avenue in Newton. Michael E. Jayne, 46, and Courtney R. Vail, 34, both of Springfield, were arrested.
Authorities allege Jayne was wanted on an aggravated methamphetamine manufacturing warrant and possessed less than 15 grams of methamphetamine with intent to deliver. Vail was also accused of possessing methamphetamine with intent to deliver.
In another traffic stop around 12:22 a.m. July 30 near U.S. Highway 130 and 2000th Avenue in Hidalgo, deputies arrested Jeffery R. Sims, 46, of Greenup. He allegedly possessed between 5 and 15 grams of methamphetamine and intended to deliver the drug.
The Sheriff’s Department also reported the July 31 arrest of Kaprix M. Sloan, 31, of Brooklyn, following a traffic stop on South Gregory Drive in Newton. Sloan was accused of attempting to elude police, reckless driving, possessing adult-use cannabis in a vehicle and driving without a license.
Two earlier arrests involved Nicholas H. Cornwell, 29, of Effingham, accused of driving on a suspended or revoked license July 15, and Mercedes P. Unkraut, 35, of Newton, arrested July 20 on a Jasper County warrant for an alleged pretrial-release violation.
All allegations are based on probable cause. Those arrested are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
