Mill Hall, PA – A 71-year-old man reported missing in Clinton County was found alive along a riverbank after two Good Samaritans traveling by kayak spotted him and contacted emergency crews, Pennsylvania State Police announced.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, Clinton County Emergency Services was contacted by the kayakers at approximately 2:10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, after they located George Schiele on the bank of the river.
Authorities said Schiele was found approximately 200 yards behind Floating Feathers in Mill Hall.
Emergency medical personnel treated Schiele before transporting him to a hospital for exposure and minor injuries, State Police said. No additional information about his condition was immediately released.
The discovery brought an end to a search that began after Schiele was reported missing from the Flemington Borough area.
Police previously said Schiele was last seen at approximately 10:46 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, near 761 Sturdevant St. Because of a medical condition, authorities were concerned he could become confused or disoriented and be unable to find his way home.
During the search, residents were asked to inspect garages, sheds, outbuildings, porches and other locations where someone might have sought shelter overnight.
The case drew additional attention as Pennsylvania State Police circulated information seeking the public’s help locating Schiele.
Ultimately, it was two people on kayaks who encountered him along the river and alerted authorities.
State Police thanked the public for sharing information about the search. Authorities did not disclose how Schiele reached the riverbank or additional details about the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
