Sumter County, SC – Authorities are investigating after deputies discovered the partially burned body of a man in a wooded area Saturday afternoon, prompting assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded on Saturday, Aug. 2, to a report of human remains in a wooded area near Cedar Avenue and Industrial Road in Sumter County.

When deputies arrived, investigators confirmed the victim was a man whose body had been partially burned. Officials have not released the victim’s identity or a suspected cause of death.

Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis has requested assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.

Authorities have not announced any arrests or identified any suspects. Investigators also have not indicated whether they believe the incident poses an ongoing threat to the public.
