New Mexico – A sharp drop in temperatures is setting up across the Albuquerque metro, and by early morning hours, readings will fall into the upper 20s, creating widespread frost that can damage plants quickly.

According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, a Freeze Warning is in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday, with temperatures expected between 27 and 32 degrees across the Middle Rio Grande Valley. Sensitive vegetation and outdoor plumbing face the greatest risk.

Across Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, and along the I-25 and I-40 corridors, conditions will feel crisp and biting before sunrise. While roads should remain dry, colder surfaces like bridges could briefly approach freezing. Drivers should stay alert in shaded areas.

The biggest concern centers on homes and gardens. After a warmer stretch, early spring growth is vulnerable. Cover plants, bring potted vegetation indoors, and protect exposed pipes. Sprinkler systems should be shut off to prevent damage.

Temperatures rebound quickly after sunrise, climbing into the upper 60s with bright sunshine. That warming trend continues through the weekend, with highs near 70 Saturday and low 70s Sunday.

Looking ahead, early next week brings a shift. Clouds increase with scattered showers possible Monday into Tuesday, adding a brief return of unsettled spring weather before warmer, drier air builds back in.

Five Day Forecast for Albuquerque, New Mexico:
Saturday: Sunny after early frost, high near 70°F
Sunday: Partly sunny, high near 72°F
Monday: Slight chance of showers, high near 72°F
Tuesday: Scattered showers, high near 73°F
Wednesday: Sunny and warmer, high near 80°F
