Chesterfield County, VA Shooting Leaves One Dead, One Injured

Chesterfield County, VA – Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal shooting that left one person dead and another seriously injured Friday morning at a Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) staging area in Chesterfield County.

According to Virginia State Police, troopers were notified at approximately 9:27 a.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, of a shooting on VDOT property near the intersection of Route 1 and Route 288 northbound.

Authorities said the shooting resulted in one fatality, while a second person was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. Officials identified both individuals as employees contracted by VDOT.

Investigators said no suspect is in custody at this time. State police have not released the identities of those involved, pending notification of family members and the ongoing investigation.

According to Virginia State Police, the shooting is believed to be domestic-related. Officials have not released additional details about the relationship between those involved or the events leading up to the shooting.

The investigation remains active as troopers continue gathering evidence and working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
