Green Bay, Wisconsin – Quiet weather across northeast Wisconsin will give way to a much more active and humid pattern this weekend, with multiple rounds of thunderstorms and the potential for severe weather, especially on Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, dry conditions will continue through Friday before a weak front moves into the region Saturday afternoon and evening. High temperatures will climb into the upper 80s to middle 90s, with heat index values in the 90s making it feel even hotter.
An isolated severe thunderstorm risk develops Saturday afternoon and evening as storms form along the approaching front. The primary hazards include damaging wind gusts of 50 to 70 mph, hail up to 1 inch in diameter, heavy rainfall and localized flooding. Communities including Wausau, Antigo, Shawano, Merrill, Rhinelander and nearby areas have the greatest chance of seeing stronger storms Saturday.
The threat increases on Sunday and Sunday night, when much of central and northeast Wisconsin, including Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac, Marinette and Sturgeon Bay, falls under a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk. Additional thunderstorms are expected Monday as the unsettled pattern continues.
Residents should stay weather-aware throughout the weekend, especially if attending outdoor events or traveling. Have multiple ways to receive weather warnings, secure loose outdoor items and move indoors immediately if thunder is heard or severe weather warnings are issued.
The National Weather Service says the exact timing and intensity of each round of storms will become clearer over the next couple of days, and additional watches, warnings or Heat Advisories may be issued as confidence increases.
