Naperville, IL – Residents looking to safely dispose of unwanted household items, old documents, electronics, and unused prescription medications will have the opportunity to do so during a free community recycling fair next month in Naperville.
According to State Sen. John Curran’s office, the recycling event will take place Saturday, Aug. 1, at The Compass Church – Naperville Campus, 1551 Hobson Road, from participating community organizations and volunteers. Attendees are asked to remain in their vehicles while event staff assist with unloading accepted items.
“Summer offers an excellent opportunity to reduce household clutter in an environmentally friendly manner,” Curran said in a statement. “From recycling old electronics and shredding sensitive documents to donating gently used clothing, this event brings our community together to make a positive and lasting impact.”
The event will feature free residential document shredding, limited to two grocery bags per vehicle while capacity lasts. Unused or expired non-liquid prescription medications will also be accepted for safe disposal.
Residents may also bring gently used clothing, bicycles and bicycle parts, select electronics, books, hearing aids, eyeglasses, cell phones, printer cartridges, musical instruments, holiday lights, Brita filters and pitchers, X-rays, wire, brass, sneakers, and several other recyclable household items.
Items not accepted include furniture, mattresses, large appliances, CRT televisions and computer monitors, hazardous household chemicals, automotive fluids and tires, construction materials, traditional curbside recyclables such as cardboard and plastic bottles, weapons, and certain recalled children’s products.
Participating organizations include Beaver Shredding, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, E-Tech Trading, Goodwill Industries, Naperville Noon Lions Club, SCARCE, and Working Bikes.
