Little Rock, Arkansas – Arkansas will get a brief break from the recent stretch of oppressive summer heat, with cooler temperatures and lower heat index values lasting through Saturday before a strong ridge rebuilds and sends triple-digit temperatures back across the state by Sunday and into next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, most of the state will experience highs in the upper 80s to middle 90s through Friday, with overnight lows generally settling in the upper 60s to middle 70s. The temporary cooldown will provide more comfortable conditions compared to the dangerous heat that has gripped Arkansas in recent days.

A few scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop Friday into Saturday, particularly across northern and western Arkansas. While rainfall coverage will remain limited, some locations could see 20% to 40% rain chances, offering localized relief from the heat.

By Sunday, the weather pattern shifts once again as high pressure strengthens over the region. Afternoon temperatures will climb back into the upper 90s to around 100 degrees, with the hottest readings expected across central, eastern and southern Arkansas. Cities including Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Stuttgart, Monticello and Jonesboro could once again approach or exceed the century mark early next week.

Residents should use the cooler stretch through Saturday to complete outdoor activities before dangerous heat returns. Stay hydrated, limit strenuous afternoon work and continue monitoring updated heat advisories as temperatures climb back into triple digits.
