Alabama – Bright sunshine and warm air are giving Huntsville a calm spring feel now, but a shift is already underway as moisture builds and a weekend storm system approaches.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, dry and mostly sunny conditions hold through today and into Friday, with highs climbing to around 85°F. Winds remain light, making for ideal outdoor conditions across Madison County and along I-565.

Changes begin Saturday afternoon. Scattered showers and thunderstorms develop after 4 p.m., with rain chances climbing to 60 percent. Roads may turn slick quickly as the first round of rain moves in, especially during late-day travel.

Storms become more widespread Saturday night, when rain chances reach 100 percent. Periods of heavier rain and embedded thunderstorms could lead to reduced visibility and ponding on roadways. Drivers along I-65 and U.S. 72 should plan extra time and watch for sudden downpours.

By Sunday, the system begins to weaken. A few lingering showers remain possible early, but skies gradually clear as cooler air settles in. Highs drop into the upper 60s, offering a noticeable change after the warm stretch.

Looking ahead, early next week turns quieter and seasonable, with sunshine returning and highs climbing back into the low 70s.

If you’re making weekend plans, keep an eye on changing conditions and prepare for wet roads Saturday night. Are you seeing clouds starting to build in your area?
