Yakima County, WA – Three juvenile passengers were killed Saturday night following a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Green Valley Road and Snipes Pump Road, according to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and firefighters responded to the crash at approximately 10 p.m. Saturday in the County of Yakima. When first responders arrived, they found both vehicles with significant damage.
Investigators said a 2017 Subaru Legacy was turning eastbound onto Green Valley Road from Snipes Pump Road when it collided with a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta that was traveling westbound on Green Valley Road.
The sheriff’s office said the Subaru was occupied by five people, including three juvenile passengers who were ejected from the vehicle during the collision. Despite lifesaving efforts by emergency responders, all three juveniles were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to authorities, the Subaru’s driver and front-seat passenger were transported to an area hospital. The driver was later booked on three counts of vehicular homicide, the sheriff’s office said.
One occupant of the Volkswagen Jetta was also transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators believe intoxicants were a factor in the collision, according to the sheriff’s office, although the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, and the deceased juveniles’ families have been notified.
The allegations against the driver have been made by law enforcement, and any criminal charges must be proven in court.
