Wisconsin – A glaze of ice is already forming on bridges and untreated roads, turning parts of the Milwaukee area into a slick and dangerous drive within minutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee, freezing rain is producing ice accumulations between 0.1 and 0.2 inches, especially north of I-94. Elevated surfaces and side streets are the first to ice over, creating immediate hazards through the morning commute.

Across southeastern Wisconsin, conditions vary block by block. In Milwaukee, light rain mixes with freezing drizzle near 33°F, while colder pockets just inland see faster icing. Drivers on I-94, I-43, and Highway 41 should expect sudden loss of traction on ramps and overpasses. Allow extra braking distance and avoid quick lane changes.

Meteorologists now tracking a rapid shift later today. Temperatures rise into the 60s, flipping precipitation to steady rain and gusty winds near 30 mph. Thunderstorms may develop by afternoon and evening, with a risk for stronger cells south of I-94.

Rain continues into Friday before a brief break. Another round of showers arrives Friday night into Saturday, keeping roads wet into the first weekend of April. By Sunday, cooler air returns with partial sunshine and highs near 49.

Looking ahead, early next week trends colder at night, with a chance of rain mixing with snow Monday night as temperatures dip near freezing. Watch for potential slick spots if surfaces refreeze.

Conditions may change quickly today. Are roads icy where you are?
