Wisconsin – A cold wind is already sweeping across Green Bay this afternoon, and while skies look calm now, a sharp and hazardous shift is building that could turn roads icy within hours. Pavement may look manageable early, but conditions will deteriorate fast.

According to the National Weather Service in Green Bay, a Winter Weather Advisory takes effect early Thursday morning as mixed precipitation develops. Snow and sleet totals up to 0.5 inches and ice accumulation up to 0.2 inches are expected, with northeast wind gusts reaching 30 mph.

Across northeast Wisconsin, including Manitowoc, Kewaunee, and Door County, precipitation begins as snow and sleet before transitioning to freezing rain. That combination creates a glaze on roads, sidewalks, and bridges. Travel will become slippery, especially along I-43 and Highway 41.

The biggest concern is timing. As temperatures hover near freezing, wet surfaces may quickly ice over. This flash-freeze setup can catch drivers off guard, especially during the early commute. Plan extra time and avoid sudden braking.

Later Thursday, temperatures rise enough for precipitation to switch to plain rain. Even so, roads may remain slick through mid-morning before gradual improvement.

Looking ahead, the pattern stays active. Rain returns Friday night into Saturday, with additional wet travel likely. Temperatures hover in the 40s and low 50s, keeping conditions cool and unsettled into the weekend.

By Sunday, partial sunshine returns with highs in the mid-40s, offering a brief break. Longer range trends point toward a warmer push into next week, signaling that spring is trying to take hold.

For now, prepare for icy roads and reduced traction early. Secure travel plans and stay alert. Are you seeing any early flakes or still dry where you are?
