Little Rock, Ark. – Sunlight is already reflecting off roads and parking lots across central Arkansas, and the air is becoming noticeably heavier by the hour. The hottest part of the day is still ahead, and this developing stretch of summer heat will continue to intensify through early next week.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect from noon until 8 p.m. today, with another advisory scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday as dangerous heat settles across central, eastern, north-central and southeast Arkansas.
According to the National Weather Service in Little Rock, afternoon heat index values will reach around 105 degrees today and climb between 105 and 110 degrees Sunday. High humidity combined with temperatures near 97 degrees will create conditions that can quickly lead to heat-related illnesses.
The hot pattern strengthens even more after the weekend. High temperatures are expected to reach 99 degrees Monday before peaking near 102 degrees Tuesday, making Tuesday the hottest day in the current outlook. Little relief is expected after sunset, with nighttime lows remaining in the middle to upper 70s.
Drivers along Interstate 30, Interstate 40, Interstate 430 and Interstate 440 should prepare for extreme afternoon heat. Vehicles can overheat more easily, while pavement temperatures become significantly hotter than the surrounding air. Anyone attending outdoor events, youth sports or working outside should schedule frequent breaks, drink plenty of water and seek air conditioning during the hottest part of the afternoon.
No organized severe weather is expected through the period, but forecasters continue monitoring the broader pattern as isolated storm chances may return later next week. For now, the prolonged heat remains the primary concern across Arkansas.
