Kansas City, Missouri – Flooding concerns are rising across western Missouri as repeated rounds of thunderstorms begin impacting the region Tuesday afternoon, with several inches of rain expected through the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, an active pattern will bring multiple waves of showers and thunderstorms from Tuesday through Saturday. Rainfall totals are expected to reach 2 to 4 inches across much of the region, with locally higher amounts possible. There is also a marginal risk for severe storms Wednesday, especially across eastern Kansas and far western Missouri.
Cities including Kansas City, St. Joseph, Independence, and areas along the I-70 and I-35 corridors could see periods of heavy rain that lead to ponding on roads and reduced visibility. Probability data shows a strong likelihood—between 70 and 86 percent in many locations—of receiving at least 2 inches of rainfall during this stretch.
Residents should prepare for changing travel conditions, avoid driving through flooded roadways, and monitor local alerts. Repeated rainfall over several days may increase the risk of localized flooding, particularly in low-lying or flood-prone areas.
The unsettled pattern continues through Saturday, with additional advisories likely as rainfall totals and storm timing become more certain.
