Jackson, Mississippi – Drivers along the Gulf Coast could run into brief downpours and reduced visibility by mid to late afternoon as scattered showers begin developing across southern Mississippi.

According to the National Weather Service in Jackson, warm and humid conditions will push temperatures into the low to mid-80s statewide today, creating an environment supportive of scattered afternoon showers and a few thunderstorms, mainly across southern and eastern areas. Rain chances remain lower across the Delta but increase closer to the coast and along the I-10 corridor.

Cities including Hattiesburg, Gulfport, and Pascagoula are most likely to see passing showers, while Jackson, Meridian, and Brookhaven could experience isolated storm development later in the day. Although widespread severe weather is not expected, a few storms could bring brief heavy rain and gusty winds.

Motorists should watch for slick roads during sudden downpours, especially on heavily traveled routes like I-55, I-59, and U.S. 49. Outdoor plans may need quick adjustments as storms develop during peak afternoon hours.

Rain chances taper off into the evening, but warm conditions will persist. Additional updates may follow if storm coverage increases later today.
