Columbia County, WI – A Baraboo man has been charged following an alleged sexual assault at a campground in the Town of Pacific, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a report on Sunday, June 21, regarding suspicious activity that had allegedly occurred the previous day at a campground in the Town of Pacific. Deputies interviewed the adult victim, who was employed at the campground, during the investigation.

Investigators allege that William Deppe, 39, of Baraboo, entered a campground restroom while the victim was cleaning it and closed a door that had been propped open. According to the sheriff’s office, Deppe allegedly stood in front of the door, preventing the victim from leaving, and made inappropriate sexual contact. Authorities said they believed the suspect was intoxicated at the time of the alleged incident.

Deputies arrested Deppe on June 21. According to the Columbia County District Attorney’s Office, he was charged with felony false imprisonment and fourth-degree sexual assault.

The sheriff’s office said Deppe was under Wisconsin Department of Corrections supervision at the time of the alleged incident and was also held on a probation hold.

According to court records cited by the sheriff’s office, Deppe made his initial appearance in Columbia County Circuit Court on Monday, June 22, where a judge set a $1,000 signature bond. Authorities said he has since been transferred to the Sauk County Jail, where he remains in custody on the probation hold.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation. The case remains subject to court proceedings, and the charges are allegations. Deppe is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
