Nevada – Mild air is already settling over Reno this morning, with temperatures near 60°F and dry roads making for an easy start across I-580 and local streets. That calm setup won’t last long as a shift toward wetter weather begins within the next 24 hours.
According to the National Weather Service, partly sunny skies will push highs near 71°F today before clouds thicken Tuesday. Showers become likely by Tuesday afternoon with a 60% chance, bringing the first round of wet roads and reduced visibility.
Rain chances continue Tuesday night into Wednesday, with a 40% to 50% chance of showers and highs cooling into the mid-50s. While rainfall totals remain light overall, repeated rounds of showers could create slick conditions during commutes across Reno, Sparks, and along I-80.
Winds also increase midweek, with gusts up to 25 to 30 mph possible. That could lead to brief blowing dust in open areas and sudden drops in visibility. Keep both hands on the wheel, especially on elevated roadways.
By Thursday morning, colder air filters in, bringing a chance of rain mixing with snow. Snow levels drop to around 5400 feet, meaning higher elevations and Sierra passes could see light accumulation. Travel over Donner Summit and surrounding routes may be impacted.
Conditions improve by Friday with sunshine returning and highs climbing back into the upper 50s. A warmer trend builds into the first weekend of April, with temperatures reaching the 60s and low 70s.
