Louisiana Weather Today: Shreveport Records Over 6 Inches of Rain

Shreveport, LA – Parts of the Ark-La-Tex experienced significant rainfall over the past 24 hours, with downtown Shreveport receiving more than six inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, the highest official rainfall total for the 24-hour period ending 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, was 6.19 inches in downtown Shreveport.

Several other communities also recorded substantial rainfall, including 2 ESE Zavalla, Texas (5.10 inches), Barksdale Air Force Base (4.59 inches), 2.4 miles west of Bossier City (3.95 inches), and 1.1 miles north-northwest of Zavalla, Texas (3.95 inches).

Additional notable totals included Zavalla (3.31 inches), Pearson Ridge Polk (3.01 inches), San Augustine, Texas (2.71 inches), Gilmer, Texas (2.46 inches), Jefferson, Texas (2.39 inches), southwest Shreveport (2.36 inches), Battie, Louisiana (2.28 inches), and Natchitoches (2.04 inches).

The rainfall map released by the National Weather Service shows widespread moderate to heavy precipitation across portions of northwest Louisiana and East Texas, with localized areas receiving more than five inches of rain.

While the National Weather Service did not issue a summary of flooding impacts with the rainfall report, rainfall of this magnitude can lead to standing water on roads, rises on area creeks and streams, and localized flooding in low-lying or poor-drainage areas.

Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring local forecasts as additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms remain possible across the region.
