Pueblo, CO – Warm summer weather will continue across southern Colorado this week, but an influx of monsoon moisture is expected to bring increasing chances for afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms through the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a strong area of high pressure over the Rockies will keep temperatures at or above seasonal averages, while allowing monsoon moisture from the Desert Southwest to gradually spread into western and southern Colorado.

Tuesday will feature another warm day with isolated thunderstorms mainly over the mountains, while most lower elevations remain dry. High temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s and 90s across the plains, including around 93 degrees in Pueblo, 92 in Trinidad, 94 in La Junta, and 93 in Springfield.

Beginning Wednesday, moisture increases across western Colorado before gradually expanding into south-central and possibly southeast Colorado later in the week. Rain chances steadily rise for many mountain communities, including Del Norte, Salida, Buena Vista, Leadville, and Alamosa, where afternoon thunderstorms become increasingly common through Friday and Saturday.

Lower elevations, including Pueblo, Cañon City, Walsenburg, and Trinidad, will also see gradually increasing opportunities for scattered afternoon storms as the week progresses, although coverage is expected to remain less widespread than in the higher terrain.

Residents planning outdoor activities should be prepared for rapidly developing afternoon thunderstorms capable of producing lightning, brief heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and localized flooding, especially in and near the mountains.
