Miami, FL – Dangerous heat is expected across South Florida today as a Heat Advisory remains in effect for all metro areas and portions of the interior, with heat index values climbing as high as 110 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service in Miami, afternoon high temperatures will reach the mid- to upper 90s, while humidity pushes apparent temperatures into the 105 to 110-degree range across much of the region. The hottest conditions are expected during the late morning through early evening hours.

Communities including Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Homestead, Belle Glade, Immokalee, La Belle, and Everglades City could experience dangerous heat stress if proper precautions are not taken.

Forecasters also say Saharan dust moving into South Florida will reduce the coverage of showers and thunderstorms today. The best chance for rain will be across interior and western sections of the peninsula, while metro areas along the Atlantic coast are expected to remain mostly dry.

Rain chances range from 15% to 20% along the southeast coast, increasing to 35% to 45% across inland and western locations.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, and spend time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible. Officials also remind drivers to always check the back seat before leaving a vehicle, as interior temperatures can become life-threatening for children and pets within minutes.

The combination of dangerous heat and limited rainfall will make heat safety the primary weather concern across South Florida today.
