Springfield, MO – Rain chances are making a return to the Ozarks this week, with the highest likelihood of showers and thunderstorms arriving Wednesday before hotter temperatures build back into the region this weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, isolated showers and thunderstorms are possible Tuesday, mainly southeast of Springfield, with rain chances increasing significantly on Wednesday. Scattered storms are expected across portions of southern Missouri, with additional isolated showers remaining possible Thursday.
Communities including Springfield, Branson, West Plains, Rolla, Ava, Poplar Bluff, and surrounding areas could see periods of rain and thunderstorms during the middle of the week, although not every location will receive measurable rainfall.
High temperatures are expected to remain relatively comfortable for mid-July, ranging from the mid-80s to lower 90s through Friday. By the weekend, warmer air returns with highs climbing into the upper 80s and lower to mid-90s, while isolated afternoon thunderstorms remain possible Saturday.
Forecasters expect Wednesday to offer the greatest coverage of showers and storms, with rain chances ranging from 30% to 60% across parts of southern Missouri. Rain coverage becomes more scattered again Thursday before drier weather develops Friday.
Residents with outdoor plans should monitor the forecast for changing thunderstorm timing, especially during the afternoon and evening hours. Lightning and brief heavy downpours will be possible with stronger storms.
