Albany, NY – The hottest weather of the week is arriving across the Capital Region as temperatures and humidity combine to produce dangerous heat conditions Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be the warmest days of the week. While humidity levels may not be as oppressive as earlier this month, heat index values are forecast to reach the upper 90s to around 101 degrees, creating a moderate to major HeatRisk across much of eastern New York and western New England.
A Heat Advisory is in effect Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for portions of the region, including the Albany area. The advisory was issued because prolonged exposure to the heat could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and those without reliable access to air conditioning.
Health officials recommend drinking plenty of water, taking frequent breaks if working outdoors, limiting strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day, and checking on vulnerable neighbors and family members. Pet owners should also ensure animals have access to shade and fresh water while avoiding hot pavement during afternoon hours.
The National Weather Service notes that warm conditions will continue into Wednesday before temperatures gradually ease later in the week. Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest forecasts and follow any additional heat-related advisories issued for the region.
