Davenport, Iowa – A prolonged stretch of hot, humid weather is set to settle across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois this week, with afternoon temperatures climbing into the 90s and heat index values reaching 95 to 100 degrees from Tuesday through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, tonight will remain clear with light east to northeast winds and overnight lows in the mid-60s. Temperatures then begin a steady climb Monday, with highs ranging from 88 to 92 degrees before even hotter conditions arrive for the remainder of the workweek.

Highs are expected to reach 90 to 93 degrees Tuesday through Friday, while increasing humidity will make it feel considerably hotter during the afternoon. The greatest heat stress is expected between noon and 7 p.m., especially across the Quad Cities, including Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, Moline, East Moline, Clinton and Muscatine.

Unlike many recent summer patterns, meaningful rainfall is not expected through much of the upcoming week. The lack of widespread showers will allow temperatures and humidity to build each day, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses for anyone spending extended time outdoors.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, wear lightweight clothing and take frequent breaks in air-conditioned buildings or shaded areas. Outdoor workers, athletes, older adults and young children should limit strenuous activity during the hottest part of the afternoon, and children and pets should never be left inside parked vehicles.

The hot, dry pattern is expected to continue through at least Friday, with additional heat advisories possible if heat index values trend higher than currently forecast.
