Richland County, IL Double Homicide: Olney Man Charged With Murder

Olney, IL – A 25-year-old Olney man has been charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder after two people were found dead in separate homes Tuesday afternoon, according to Illinois State Police.

According to Illinois State Police, the investigation began after the Olney Police Department requested assistance following the discovery of two deceased individuals in the 400 block of East Monroe Street at approximately 3:11 p.m. Tuesday, July 7.

Officers from the Olney Police Department and the Richland County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area and located 52-year-old John D. Jones Jr. and 73-year-old Deborah J. Jones deceased in separate residences.

Investigators allege that Dylan M. Jones, 25, of Olney, struck John Jones Jr. in the head with a sharp-edged instrument and stabbed Deborah Jones with a knife.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office is conducting medical examinations to determine the official causes of death.

Following the investigation, Illinois State Police arrested Dylan Jones. The Richland County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged him with six counts of first-degree murder.

Authorities have not released additional information about the circumstances surrounding the deaths or the relationship between the suspect and the victims.

The investigation remains ongoing.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Dylan M. Jones is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
