Streator, IL – The Streator Fire Department has received a state grant of more than $25,000 to purchase specialized rescue equipment designed to improve emergency response capabilities and firefighter safety.

According to the Streator Fire Department, the department was awarded a $25,603 Small Equipment Grant through the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal (OSFM).

Officials said the funding will be used to purchase critical technical rescue equipment, including a RES-Q-JACK APEX Style 2-Point Standard System, Turtle Plastics cribbing sets, and a Paratech air lifting bag set.

The department said the new equipment will enhance firefighters’ ability to stabilize damaged vehicles and compromised structures while performing technical rescue operations safely and efficiently.

Fire Chief Bryan Park thanked the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal for its continued investment in local fire departments.

According to the department, grants like this allow agencies to acquire specialized equipment without placing an additional financial burden on local taxpayers.

Once the equipment is purchased, firefighters will complete specialized training on its operation at the Streator Public Safety Training Facility before it is placed into service.

The Small Equipment Grant Program provides funding to Illinois fire departments for equipment that strengthens emergency response capabilities across the state.

Founded in 1887, the Streator Fire Department provides fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials response, and code enforcement services to the community.
