Indianapolis, IN – Indiana residents recovering from severe storms, flooding, tornadoes and the June derecho may be eligible for assistance as state officials continue damage assessments across affected communities.
According to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, eligible residents in dozens of counties can apply for assistance through Indiana’s State Disaster Relief Fund. The program is intended to help uninsured or underinsured residents recover from storm-related losses.
Counties currently listed as eligible include Allen, Bartholomew, Benton, Boone, Brown, Carroll, Cass, Clay, Clinton, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Elkhart, Fountain, Franklin, Fulton, Grant, Greene, Hamilton, Hancock, Harrison, Hendricks, Howard, Huntington, Jackson, Jasper, Jay, Jefferson, Jennings, Johnson, Knox, Kosciusko, LaGrange, Lake, LaPorte, Lawrence, Madison, Marion, Marshall, Miami, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Newton, Ohio, Owen, Parke, Porter, Putnam, Randolph, Ripley, Rush, Shelby, St. Joseph, Steuben, Switzerland, Tippecanoe, Vanderburgh, Vermillion, Vigo, Wabash, Warren and White counties.
State officials said residents can also report storm damage through Indiana 211. Damage reports help local, state and federal agencies better understand the extent of storm impacts and determine whether additional assistance programs may become available.
The state highlighted several recent storm events, including impacts reported on June 9 in Harrison County, June 11 in Carroll, Elkhart, Huntington, Lake and Porter counties, and June 17 in Clay, Jackson, Jefferson, Monroe, Owen, Putnam and Scott counties.
Officials emphasized that assessments remain ongoing and additional counties could become eligible as reviews continue.
Residents are also being reminded to watch for home repair scams, use caution during debris cleanup, stay away from downed power lines and follow guidance from local emergency management officials.
