Grant County, WA – Emergency officials have issued Level 3 evacuation orders for the Sun Lakes Campground area as a fast-moving wildfire continues to threaten portions of central Washington.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Level 3 evacuations, the highest evacuation level, were issued Monday for the campground. Officials emphasized that residents and visitors should leave immediately due to the danger posed by the advancing wildfire.
“Level 3 means Go. Leave now,” the sheriff’s office said in its emergency notice. Authorities warned that delaying evacuation could put lives at risk and may prevent emergency responders from conducting rescues if conditions rapidly worsen.
In addition to the evacuation order, officials announced road closures on State Route 17 and State Route 2 due to the wildfire’s movement. Drivers are being urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
The wildfire was described by authorities as fast-moving, though officials had not immediately released information regarding acreage, containment levels or the cause of the fire.
Sun Lakes Campground is located within the Sun Lakes-Dry Falls area, a popular recreation destination in Grant County that attracts campers, boaters and outdoor enthusiasts, especially during the summer season.
Emergency managers are urging anyone in the evacuation zone to follow official instructions and not wait until flames or smoke become visible nearby before leaving.
No public information officer had been assigned to the incident as of the latest update, and additional information is expected as firefighters continue responding to the wildfire.
Residents and travelers in the area should continue monitoring emergency alerts and local authorities for updated evacuation zones, road closures and fire conditions.
