Kankakee, Illinois – A planned rally Saturday at the courthouse lawn is expected to draw hundreds of participants, prompting increased activity in the downtown area.
According to a press release from organizers, the “No Kings” rally is scheduled from 2 to 5 p.m. March 28 at the Kankakee County Courthouse Lawn. The event is being organized by Indivisible Kankakee, Connect Kankakee, and local partners as part of a nationwide day of action with more than 3,100 events planned across all 50 states and Washington, D.C.
Organizers say the gathering will include speeches and a coordinated, nonviolent demonstration. The release states that safety measures include trained de-escalation volunteers and coordination with partners to maintain a lawful event.
About 500 people attended a previous local rally, according to organizers, and higher turnout is anticipated this weekend. The event follows recent student walkouts at Kankakee High School and Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School earlier this year tied to national policy concerns, as described by organizers.
Statements in the release allege concerns about civil liberties, immigration enforcement, and federal policy decisions. Those claims reflect the views of organizers and have not been independently verified.
The rally is part of broader national demonstrations organized under the “No Kings” banner, which emphasize nonviolent protest and civic engagement.
Drivers and pedestrians in the downtown courthouse area may encounter increased foot traffic during the event window.
The event may be of particular interest to students and young residents following recent school-related demonstrations.
