Memphis, Tennessee – The Mid-South is entering a brief stretch of warmer and more humid weather, with temperatures climbing back to around 90 degrees by midweek before a surge of tropical moisture increases rain and thunderstorm chances heading into the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Memphis, temperatures will remain slightly below average through Tuesday, with most communities across West Tennessee, eastern Arkansas, north Mississippi and the Missouri Bootheel reaching the upper 70s to mid-80s. That changes Wednesday as warmer air pushes into the region.
High temperatures are expected to reach around 90 degrees in Memphis, Jackson, Jonesboro, Tupelo and Clarksdale by Wednesday and Thursday, with humidity levels also increasing. Memphis is forecast to reach approximately 91 degrees Wednesday before remaining near 90 through the end of the workweek.
Rain chances stay relatively low through Wednesday, but forecasters expect a significant increase late in the week as tropical moisture interacts with an approaching cold front. Many Mid-South communities show precipitation chances climbing to 75% to 85% Friday, including Memphis, Jackson, Jonesboro, Oxford and Tupelo.
Periods of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and localized flooding could become concerns as the wetter pattern develops. Travelers and those with outdoor plans should monitor forecasts closely as conditions evolve.
Residents should use the drier weather early this week to prepare for the possibility of wet conditions and thunderstorms later in the week. Additional forecasts and potential advisories may be issued as tropical moisture moves into the region.
