Champaign County, IL Shooting: 19-Year-Old in Critical Condition After Gunfire

Champaign, IL – A 19-year-old man remains in critical condition after being shot early Sunday morning in Champaign, according to local police.

According to the Champaign Police Department, officers were notified at approximately 1:47 a.m. after a 19-year-old male arrived at a local hospital by personal transport with a potentially life-threatening gunshot wound to the torso.

The victim was immediately taken into surgery and remained in critical condition as of the department’s latest update.

Preliminary findings indicate the victim was a passenger in a vehicle traveling in the 1600 block of North Mattis Avenue when an unknown person or persons allegedly opened fire on the vehicle.

Investigators have not released a description of a suspect or suspects, and no arrests have been announced.

Police are continuing to gather evidence and work to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Detectives are also seeking witnesses or anyone who may have information that could assist the investigation.
