Eureka, CA – Residents across portions of interior Northern California are facing several more days of dangerous heat as temperatures climb into the upper 90s and low 100s, with some communities forecast to reach as high as 107 degrees through Tuesday, June 16.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, Heat Advisories remain in effect for portions of Del Norte, Humboldt, Trinity, Lake and Mendocino counties. Forecasters say the most intense heat will occur across inland valleys where prolonged exposure could increase the risk of heat-related illnesses.

Temperatures in many interior locations are expected to range from the high 90s to 107 degrees during the advisory period. Southern Mendocino and Lake counties are expected to experience peak temperatures Saturday and again Monday, while interior portions of Humboldt and Del Norte counties could remain under extreme heat conditions from Saturday through Tuesday.

Trinity County and northern Mendocino County are expected to see the hottest conditions develop Sunday and continue into Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has categorized portions of the region under a Major HeatRisk level, indicating a heightened risk for those without effective cooling or adequate hydration. Older adults, young children, outdoor workers and individuals with preexisting health conditions are considered especially vulnerable.

Officials recommend drinking plenty of water, wearing lightweight and light-colored clothing, limiting strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day and spending time in air-conditioned buildings whenever possible.

Residents are also reminded never to leave children or pets unattended inside vehicles, where temperatures can become life-threatening within minutes.

Forecasters expect the heat to persist through Tuesday before conditions gradually moderate later in the week. Additional advisories or warnings could be issued if temperatures trend higher than currently forecast.
