Bradford, OH – Authorities in Darke County are investigating an ATV accident that left a 72-year-old woman injured Tuesday morning in Bradford.
According to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, along with Bradford Fire and Rescue crews, responded around 11:56 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, to the 9800 block of Grandview Drive for a reported ATV crash involving injuries.
Preliminary investigators said a 2025 Honda Pioneer 700 side-by-side operated by 73-year-old Thomas Sargent of Bradford was backing up when it struck his wife, 72-year-old Teresa Sargent, who was reportedly kneeling behind the vehicle at the time.
Emergency crews said Teresa Sargent became trapped underneath the side-by-side following the collision. Rescue personnel were able to extricate her from beneath the ATV before she was transported by EMS to Upper Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Officials did not immediately release details regarding the severity of her injuries.
The Darke County Sheriff’s Office said the crash remains under active investigation. No additional information has been released at this time.
ATV and side-by-side accidents continue to be a safety concern across rural communities, particularly during spring and summer months when off-road vehicle use increases. Authorities encourage operators to remain aware of their surroundings and ensure areas behind vehicles are clear before backing up.
