Albany, New York – A fast-moving cold front is pushing temperatures below freezing overnight, setting up slick spots and scattered snow showers across eastern New York by early Friday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, rain will taper off overnight while colder air filters into the region, dropping temperatures into the 20s and 30s by daybreak. Areas north and west of Albany, including the southern Adirondacks and Mohawk Valley, could see light snow showers or flurries as colder air deepens.
In Albany, Schenectady, and Troy, temperatures hovering near 32°F early Friday could allow leftover moisture on roads to refreeze, especially on bridges and overpasses along I-87 and I-90. Farther north, locations such as Glens Falls and Old Forge may see steadier snow showers with temperatures falling into the teens and low 20s, increasing the risk of icy travel during the morning commute.
South and east of the Capital Region, including Poughkeepsie and Pittsfield, temperatures will remain slightly warmer in the 30s to near 40°F, limiting snow but still bringing a noticeable chill.
Residents should allow extra travel time Friday morning, watch for black ice, and dress for sharply colder conditions. The cold air lingers through Friday with gradual improvement heading into the weekend.
