Joliet, IL – The Forest Preserve District of Will County is offering a packed schedule of outdoor programs and family-friendly events during the week of June 8, with activities focused on native plants, pollinators, wildlife conservation and summer recreation.
According to the district, one of the featured events will be the “Pollinator Party” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Isle a la Cache Museum in Romeoville. The free event will include live bats, crafts, pollination games, native plant education and hands-on activities highlighting the importance of bees, birds and other pollinators.
A Native Plant Sale will also take place during the event, with plants available for $3 per plug while supplies last. Officials said proceeds will benefit The Nature Foundation of Will County.
Other programs throughout the week include “Intro to Gardening for Wildlife” near Beecher on June 10, where participants can learn beginner-friendly native gardening strategies designed to support pollinators and wildlife habitats.
On June 11, Hidden Lakes Trout Farm in Bolingbrook will host “Crochet for Wildlife,” allowing attendees to create small nests for wildlife rehabilitation centers during a special Worldwide Knit in Public Day event.
The district’s popular “Fun & Food Trucks” series begins June 12 at Whalon Lake in Naperville, featuring live music, food vendors, lawn games and children’s activities. Additional outdoor programming includes water play activities, migratory bird viewing at Lake Renwick Nature Preserve in Plainfield and evening twilight hikes at Monee Reservoir.
Most events are free, though some programs require advance registration through the district’s online event calendar at ReconnectWithNature.org.
