New York City, NY – A wet and breezy stretch is expected across New York City through the end of the workweek before a major warmup arrives this weekend and early next week, bringing sunshine and temperatures climbing toward the upper 80s.

According to the National Weather Service, mostly cloudy skies and breezy conditions will continue Wednesday with highs near 67 degrees and wind gusts reaching up to 33 mph. Rain chances increase significantly Wednesday night, with showers likely after 11 p.m. and localized rainfall totals between a tenth and quarter inch possible overnight.

Thursday brings the highest chance for widespread rain and thunderstorms across the city. Forecasters say showers are expected throughout the day with patchy fog possible during the morning commute. Some thunderstorms could produce heavier downpours, though severe weather is not currently expected. Highs Thursday will remain cooler near 58 degrees.

Rain chances continue into Thursday night and Friday before conditions gradually improve. Friday may still see scattered showers before 2 p.m., but skies are expected to clear later in the afternoon with highs around 63 degrees.

The weekend forecast looks significantly better for outdoor plans across the five boroughs. Saturday is expected to be sunny with temperatures warming to near 78 degrees, while Sunday could reach 83 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

The warming trend continues into early next week. Monday is forecast to reach near 80 degrees, with Tuesday potentially approaching 88 degrees alongside a slight chance of afternoon showers.
