Greenville, South Carolina – Wildfire danger is intensifying across South Carolina as near-record heat and dry air combine with gusty winds, creating conditions where fires can spread rapidly through Friday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a statewide Red Flag Fire Alert remains in effect due to ongoing drought, low humidity, and increasing winds. High temperatures are expected to reach the mid to upper 80s Friday, including near 87°F across the Upstate, putting several locations close to daily records.

Cities including Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, and Greenwood face the highest fire risk, especially during peak afternoon heating. Across the region, vegetation remains dry, and with little to no rainfall expected in the coming days, any spark could quickly lead to a fast-moving wildfire.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission strongly urges residents to avoid all outdoor burning. Equipment that produces sparks, including grills and machinery, should be used with caution or avoided during the afternoon hours.

Conditions will remain dry into the weekend, with elevated fire danger continuing. Additional alerts or burn restrictions could be issued if winds increase or humidity drops further.
