Marion, IN – A Grant County man has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash that occurred earlier this year on Interstate 69, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.
According to deputies, 32-year-old Lucas B. Wiemer of Muncie turned himself in on Sunday, May 11, following a warrant issued as part of an ongoing investigation into a crash that happened March 10, 2026, near the 272-mile marker on I-69.
Authorities say the crash resulted in the death of 45-year-old Joseph A. Kidwell, while a second victim, identified as his wife, suffered serious injuries.
Investigators allege that Wiemer was operating a vehicle with a controlled substance in his system at the time of the crash. He now faces multiple charges, including causing death when operating a vehicle with a controlled substance (Level 4 felony), causing serious bodily injury (Level 5 felony), reckless homicide (Level 5 felony), and reckless driving.
The Grant County Prosecutor’s Office filed the charges following the sheriff’s office investigation. Bond is expected to be set during an initial court hearing.
Officials emphasized that all charges are allegations, and Wiemer is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The case remains under review as authorities continue to process evidence related to the crash.
