Millinocket, ME – Maine State Police are renewing efforts to gather information in a decades-old unsolved homicide case dating back to 1988.
According to investigators, Barry Pulkkinen was found on May 7, 1988, along the side of a road in Indian Purchase, just outside Millinocket in Penobscot County. Authorities say he was transported to Maine Medical Center, where he died five days later from his injuries.
The case was ruled a homicide, but despite the passage of time, few details have emerged publicly about the circumstances surrounding his death. Officials say the investigation remains open, and they continue to seek new leads.
Pulkkinen, who was born September 6, 1961, would have been 26 years old at the time of the incident.
According to Maine State Police, even small pieces of information could help move the case forward. Advances in investigative techniques and renewed public awareness have helped solve other cold cases in recent years, giving authorities hope that this case could still be resolved.
