Wilmington, Ohio – Strong to severe storms are expected to develop tonight across Ohio, bringing threats of hail, damaging winds, and heavy rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, storms will form and move southeast through the region between 7 p.m. and 4 a.m. The greatest risk for severe weather is expected near and north of Interstate 70, including areas such as Dayton and Columbus.
Forecasters say large hail and damaging wind gusts are the primary threats, though an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out. Storms may intensify quickly as they track across the state overnight.
In addition to severe weather, periods of heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding in some areas, especially where storms repeatedly move over the same locations.
The combination of nighttime timing and fast-moving storms may create rapidly changing conditions, particularly for late-evening travel.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather alerts and have multiple ways to receive warnings as conditions develop.
The overnight timing may impact late-night commuters, students, and early-morning workers as storms move through the region.
