Carmel, IN – Police in Carmel are warning residents about a recent increase in vehicle break-ins across the community, with investigations currently active and ongoing in Hamilton County.
According to the Carmel Police Department, officers have responded to multiple reports of vehicles being entered in recent days. Authorities emphasized that many of these incidents are considered crimes of opportunity, often involving unlocked vehicles or valuables left in plain view.
Police are urging residents to take simple precautions to reduce their risk. These include locking vehicle doors, removing keys and key fobs from inside cars, and taking valuables — including firearms — into their homes. Officials also advise avoiding leaving any visible items inside vehicles that could attract attention.
According to police, even small preventative steps can significantly reduce the likelihood of becoming a target. Officers noted that many break-ins occur quickly and without forced entry.
Residents are encouraged to remain alert and report suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. In emergencies, individuals should call 911. For non-emergency situations, police can be reached at 317-571-2580.
Authorities say community awareness and cooperation play a key role in preventing further incidents as investigations continue.
