Albany, NY – A quiet and mild start to Thursday will give way to a wet evening across eastern New York, with rain to spread into the Capital Region later today and continue overnight.

According to the US National Weather Service Albany, rain will develop from northwest to southeast late Thursday afternoon into the evening as a cold front approaches the region. The system is expected to bring widespread showers, with the highest chances of precipitation occurring between roughly 6 p.m. and midnight.

Forecasters say some embedded downpours are possible during the evening hours, which could briefly reduce visibility and create slick road conditions for commuters. Rain chances peak between 70% and 90% across cities including Albany, Glens Falls, Kingston, and Poughkeepsie during the evening window.

Temperatures will remain relatively mild, with daytime highs reaching into the low-to-mid 60s across much of the region before cooling slightly overnight.

The steady rainfall is expected to taper off after midnight, with most areas drying out by early Friday morning. Lingering showers may persist briefly in southeastern areas before skies begin to clear.

Drivers are advised to plan for wet roads during the evening commute and allow extra travel time, especially during periods of heavier rainfall.

Residents across Albany County, the Capital Region, and surrounding areas should stay alert for changing conditions later today.
