Mount Holly, NJ – A frost advisory is in effect early Tuesday morning, May 12, for parts of northeast Pennsylvania, with temperatures expected to dip into the mid-30s.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the advisory runs from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Tuesday and impacts Carbon and Monroe counties, including the communities of Jim Thorpe and Stroudsburg in the Pocono region.

Overnight conditions are expected to be favorable for frost formation, especially in sheltered and low-lying areas where temperatures can briefly drop near 34 degrees before sunrise.

The primary concern is damage to sensitive outdoor vegetation. Plants left uncovered could be harmed or killed during the early morning hours, particularly as the growing season gets underway across the region.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions late Monday night by covering tender plants or bringing them indoors if possible. Even a short period of frost can impact gardens, flowers, and early crops.

Temperatures are expected to rise quickly after sunrise Tuesday, ending the frost threat by mid-morning.

This advisory highlights the continued risk of frost in higher elevation areas like the Poconos, even as much of the region experiences milder spring weather.
