Rockford, IL – Fire crews responded to a house fire early this morning in Rockford, facing heavy flames and smoke as they worked to secure the scene and search for occupants.
According to the Rockford Fire Department, crews were dispatched around 2:45 a.m. to the 1800 block of Kishwaukee Street. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered intense fire conditions and reports of a possible person inside the home, prompting immediate rescue efforts.
Firefighters initiated a vent-enter-search operation through a second-floor window due to heavy fire and compromised flooring inside the structure. Despite the dangerous conditions, no occupants were found during the search. Officials later confirmed the resident was safely located in a garage on the property.
As the fire intensified, crews transitioned to a defensive strategy to bring the blaze under control. A total of 24 firefighters responded to the incident, and authorities reported no injuries among civilians or emergency personnel.
The fire was eventually contained, though the home sustained significant damage. Officials have not yet determined the cause of the fire, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Residents in the Kishwaukee Street area and across the Rockford metro are reminded to ensure working smoke detectors are installed and to have an emergency plan in place.
